Rutherford County in southwestern North Carolina
near the South Carolina border. Rutherfordton North

one high school, RS Central, and several middle and
elementary schools that serve the area. The schools
in the Rutherfordton area are some of the best
schools not just in the county, but also in the
state. The students have new facilities and many of
the teachers at these schools hold advanced
education degrees.
Hospitals
St. Luke’s Hospital is about 18 miles away from
Rutherfordton in Columbus NC. Also there is the
Crawley Memorial Hospital about 23 miles away in
Boiling Springs NC.
Communities
Asheville is the closest metro area and is about 43
miles away. Closer towns to Rutherfordton are
Spindale, Forest City, Bostic, Chesnee SC, Lake Lure
and Mooresboro.
Things to Do
With the towns of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock not too
far away there is plenty to do in this area any time
of year. You can bike, hike, camp, fish or take a
boat ride. Golfing is another popular outdoor
activity in the area, with many golf courses that
have gorgeous scenic landscapes. If you are looking
for other things to do besides outdoor action,
Rutherfordton has a neat little downtown area with
plenty of unique shops and specialty stores that
have something for everyone. This little town has
plenty of history and charm and helps residents and
visitors alike to let their minds relax. Many people
come to this area to simply “get away” - others move
here because they like the gorgeous scenery and
friendly townspeople.
