Lake Lure NC
Located in western North Carolina, Lake Lure
sits in the middle of Hickory Nut Gorge, east of
Asheville. The Rocky Broad River feeds crystal clear
water into the gorge and flows to the lake. National
Geographic has called Lake Lure NC one of the most
beautiful man-made lakes in the world. People come
from all over to live and play on the 720 acres of
lake, 21 miles of pristine beaches and beautiful
scenery in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The climate of
Lake Lure NC is especially delightful because of its
location in the isothermal belt. Winters are usually
a little bit warmer and summers are a little bit
cooler than other places in western North Carolina.
Economy
The economy of Lake Lure NC is really good, and real
estate in the area is highly valued. Many of the
residents of Lake Lure commute to other places like
Asheville to work.
Schools
Lake Lure NC is located in Rutherford County and there
are no schools inside the town limits of Lake Lure.
However, the area county schools service Lake Lure

because the population of the town is so small. The
Rutherford County schools are great schools with an
excellent student/teacher ratio and new schools that
will give the children everything they need to
succeed.
Hospitals
St. Luke’s Hospital, located in Columbus, is about
14 miles away from Lake Lure, and the Rutherford
Hospital is about 16 miles away in Rutherfordton.
Communities
Chimney Rock, Columbus, Old Fort, Black Mountain,
Tryon and Rutherfordton are all within roughly 15
miles of Lake Lure. Asheville is also not too far a
drive away.
Things to Do
Lake Lure NC is a well known vacation spot with many
fun things to do outdoors. It was the setting for
the popular 1980’s movie, Dirty Dancing. There is
plenty to do on the lake. For instance, you can
enjoy kayaks, paddle boats, electric boats, canoes,
and pontoon boats on the lake. The Lake Lure NC marina
offers hourly, daily and weekly rentals. Or if you
would prefer someone else doing all the work, then
you can hop aboard the scenic boat and take a lake
tour. You can also enjoy the crystal clear water
from the Lake Lure beaches. With lifeguards on duty
and a fun water park available for kids to enjoy,
the beaches of Lake Lure NC are a fun place to visit.
Fishing is another reason why so many people come to
enjoy Lake Lure NC. With the beautiful mountain scenery
serving as a backdrop, many families enjoy a day of
fishing on the lake. Asheville and Chimney Rock area
also within a short drive away so you can enjoy all
the great things to do in these places.
